About Nate
Nate’s introduction to union leadership came early in his time in the emergency department, where he worked alongside former Clinic President and Board of Directors member Rob Jones. Watching that work firsthand showed him how much impact the union could have not only on healthcare workers, but also on patients, the community, and the organization itself.
He began helping address problems on the unit, working between staff and administration to push for solutions and improve communication. Over time, that work expanded into broader leadership responsibilities within the affiliate.
In 2024, the affiliate faced growing frustration around unsafe staffing and communication issues between the union and the membership. Many members felt disconnected from what was happening and believed important concerns were not being fully addressed.
Working alongside his officer team, Nate helped implement a weekly virtual office hours model.
Members were given a consistent forum to ask difficult questions, voice frustrations, and better understand the decisions impacting them at work and within the union.
This model rapidly increased participation across the affiliate.
Nate's experience helped shape his vision of what our union could become: a powerful organization committed to patient safety that leads through education, consistent communication, and a strong connection to frontline healthcare workers.
